A plea for tech help.

Oh, man, I hate asking for help. It decreases my virility.

I have a PCI video board that won’t work well when I add a USB 2.0 PCI board. When both are installed, videos play at about one frame every ten seconds. I’ve tried moving the boards around to different slots and I’ve tried reinstalling the drivers. No joy. In Windows XP, how can I track down the problem? This is a real PITA.

Alternatively, would anyone be willing to pay to see me naked so I can afford a new motherboard? Maybe that’s too disgusting. How about instead, for $250 I’ll shave your company’s name into the hair on my back and feature it in my next video.

  1. A friend of mine had the same problem recently, and he ended up returning the card and got a better one to solve the problem.

    1. I’ve tried two different USB cards with two different chipsets.

The store I bought it from (Yodobashi Camera) won’t return computer parts unless they’re broken and you need a replacement. Seems like lots of stores have rather inflexible return policies.

    1. Yep, all up to date. The problem isn’t with video input, only playback, so the problem is with the video card. It goes away when the USB 2 card is removed. None of the acceleration settings in Windows seem to change, but it’s obvious that the card’s not doing any hardware acceleration.

Video card: ATI GeoCube Radon 9600 128MB

The card I need to use is Sugoi Card SGC-52UFL Rev. 2. It has Realtek RTL8139D, USB 2.0 VIA VT-6212, IEEE 1394 Texas Instruments TSB43AB23A, wet bar, and foot massager.

I-O Data IEEE 1394 & USB 2.0, VIA chipset, model #1396US2-PCI2 is one I pulled from a PC at the office to test in my PC. Same problem.

I have an old USB 1 & IEEE1394 card that doesn’t cause a problem, so by deduction my guess is some kind of conflict between USB 2 & the video card, but I don’t know if it’s hardware or software related. My guess is software.

What I really need is some kind of utility that’ll list every piece of hardware, driver, IRQ, etc. and use CSdiff to compare what’s going on when the card is installed/uninstalled. I don’t even know where to start looking for something like that without wasting hours online.

Is it just me who hates asking for tech help? I feel like I’m in public not wearing any pants.

  2. HAHA. thats true.

lemme know how it goes. I’ll be interested to see what happens. 🙂

looking forward to the new feeds!
