Officially the last to know: Obama’s running for President!

Cripes, I fall asleep for about six hours and not only do I miss the earthquake of the century, but Barak Obama declares his candidacy!

Does anyone out there know what I can do here in Tokyo to help him run for president? Whatever it is, I’m there!

For starters, I’ve subscribed all of you to his mailing list. No need to thank me…

  1. Not quite — he hasn’t officially declared, just set up the legal paperwork for an exploratory committee. I think I read in the NYTimes that he will announce 10 Feb.

    1. I would assume he’s planning on going through with it though and that its a done deal seeing as how hes making all of these announcements.

      Great news indeed.

  2. I find it hard to believe that about 35% of voting democrats polled support Clinton. Maybe it’s because she’s the most well-known of the candidates. But I’ve yet to hear from anyone online or off who thinks she’d be a good president.

    1. It could be because people don’t have confidence in Obama’s ability to win. He’s attractive, but his blessing – not much of a national record to be used against him – is also his curse: He won’t be able to point to many accomplishments on a national level. Hillary’s Senate record is high-profile, with only her Iraq stance sitting against her in a Democratic primary; a stance that won’t hurt her in a national election given that most of her opponents would have the same type of record. Obama’s also a good bit to the left of Hillary, which might hurt him in a Presidential election.

As for helping him, you can donate up to $1,000 and do whatever else you’d like on the side – make ads, blog for him, be sure to vote in primaries as well as the general election, accuse his opponents of assaulting you. . .
