In Japanese Windows 2000 or XP there’s a utility to lookup kanji characters by drawing them with your mouse, but if you can’t draw them well enough you’re screwed.
This site will let you lookup characters by choosing radicals. I just found it and it saved me the embarrassment of having to ask a coworker to read for me. (I hate doing that. It’s a man thing, like refusing to ask for directions.)

Have you tried the WWWJDIC kanji lookup tools? (http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html) I find the Multiradical one works for me about 80% of the time, then use “Find Kanji in the Database” for those pernicious little characters that don’t like having their radicals picked apart.

What a great site. I’m xfer’ng vinyl that I brought home in 1960 to CD’s and want to create CD labels. Spent at least three hours yesterday trying to find one kanji by stroke count. Found it in less than 5 minutes on this site. どうも ありがとう
